  • Do not retain client passwords beyond the service scope

  • Maintain logs of administrative actions where feasible

8. CCTV Installation and Data Handling

We provide CCTV system installation and configuration services. Unless explicitly agreed otherwise in writing, we act solely as a data processor, with our clients retaining full control and responsibility as data controllers. We set recording lengths up to 28 days by default. Customers can require longer retentions periods but is subject to storage device size. All businesses with CCTV must be ICO registered and we can assist you with this process. 

In cases where AEL Networks stores CCTV footage on behalf of a client:

  • Footage is retained for 28 days unless a longer retention is legally required (e.g., by request from law enforcement to save footage).

  • Storage systems are encrypted and access is restricted to authorised personnel only.

  • We do not access or review footage unless requested by the client or law enforcement.

We offer guidance on GDPR-compliant use of CCTV, including signage, policy templates, and assistance with access requests.



9. Data Recovery and Temporary Storage

During the recovery process:

  • Recovered files are temporarily stored on encrypted external media

  • Data is retained for a maximum of 6 months, unless otherwise agreed

  • Data is deleted from temporary store once you confirm successful transfer to your exisiting device(s) or accept delivery of a recovery disk(s)

  • We do not access personal content unless necessary to verify recovery or upon request

10. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted data storage and transfer

  • Role-based access control and secure login practices

  • Secure disposal of hardware and sensitive files

  • Ensuring principles on data protection and secure handling

11. Data Breach Response

In the event of a personal data breach:

  • We assess the impact and determine risk to data subjects

  • If required, we notify the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) within 72 hours

  • We inform affected individuals where there is a high risk to their rights or freedoms
